Excluded settings

Choose which Minecraft settings Settings Saver never saves or loads, such as resource packs or the last server, with exact keys or prefix patterns.

Some settings belong to one instance or one computer, not to you: the resource packs a modpack ships, the last server you joined, your sound device. Settings Saver leaves excluded settings alone. By the end of this guide you can add and remove exclusions for a profile.

Before you start#

Exclusions belong to a profile, so each profile has its own list. The list you edit is the one of the profile in use: switch first if you want to edit another one (see Using profiles).

An excluded setting is skipped everywhere:

Steps#

  1. Open Options, Settings Saver..., then Excluded settings.... The screen is titled Excluded settings: default (or the name of the profile in use).
  2. To add a setting, type its key in Pattern and add it. Keys are the names used in options.txt, for example renderDistance, fov or key_key.jump.
  3. To match every key that starts with some text, end the pattern with *. key_* matches every keybind, soundCategory_* every volume slider.
  4. To remove a pattern, remove it from the list.
  5. Changes apply right away, and are saved in the profile's profile.properties.

Patterns may not contain spaces or =, and * is only allowed as the last character. The screen says Spaces and = aren't allowed or * is only allowed at the end when a pattern breaks a rule.

To find a key, open the instance's options.txt in a text editor: each line is key:value.

Default exclusions#

A new profile starts with these keys excluded:

Key Why it is excluded
resourcePacks, incompatibleResourcePacks Packs differ per instance or modpack.
lastServer The last server you typed into Direct Connect.
tutorialStep, joinedFirstServer, skipMultiplayerWarning, skipRealms32bitWarning, onboardAccessibility, hideBundleTutorial, startedCleanly One-time tutorials, warnings and bookkeeping.
soundDevice, fullscreenResolution Hardware-specific.

The version line of options.txt is always handled by Settings Saver itself and can't be included.

Reset to defaults replaces the profile's list with the defaults above, after you confirm.
