Installation

Pick the right Xi's Multiversion UI Lib jar for your loader and Minecraft version, install it next to the mods that need it, and check that it loaded.

By the end of this guide the library is installed and the mods that need it can show their menus.

Before you start#

You need a client instance with one of the supported loaders, and at least one mod that depends on the library (its download page or its own crash message will say it needs xis_mvui). The library needs no other mods.

Pick the jar#

One jar covers a whole loader family, so you never need a different jar per Minecraft version.

Jar Loader Minecraft
xis_mvui-<version>-fabric.jar Fabric, Quilt 1.14 to 26.3
xis_mvui-<version>-legacyfabric.jar Legacy Fabric 1.7.10 to 1.13.2
xis_mvui-<version>-forge-1.7.10.jar Forge 1.7.10
xis_mvui-<version>-forge-1.8-1.12.2.jar Forge 1.8 to 1.12.2
xis_mvui-<version>-modlauncher.jar Forge 1.13.2 to 26.3
xis_mvui-<version>-modlauncher.jar NeoForge 1.20.1 to 26.3

Fabric, Quilt

Use the fabric jar on Minecraft 1.14 and newer. Quilt loads it as is. Fabric Loader 0.12 or newer is required; Fabric API is not.

Install Mod Menu too if you want each mod's menu behind its Config button in the mod list. Without it, the menus are still on the Options screen.

Legacy Fabric

Use the legacyfabric jar on Minecraft 1.7.10 to 1.13.2.

Forge

Forge has three jars, one per era:

  • 1.7.10: the forge-1.7.10 jar.
  • 1.8 to 1.12.2: the forge-1.8-1.12.2 jar.
  • 1.13.2 to 26.3: the modlauncher jar.

NeoForge

Use the modlauncher jar on every NeoForge version, 1.20.1 to 26.3. It is the same jar Forge 1.13.2+ uses.

Install it#

  1. Close the game.
  2. Put the jar in the instance's mods folder, next to the mods that use it.
  3. Start the game.

Check that it works#

Open Options. There is a new button: the name of the one mod whose menu is installed, or Mod menus... if there are several. If it's missing, see Troubleshooting.

The library also writes one line to the game log (logs/latest.log) when it starts, beginning with [Xi's Multiversion UI Lib], saying which backend it uses for your game:

[Xi's Multiversion UI Lib] UI backend <backend> for <loader> <version>

Servers#

The library is client-side. A dedicated server doesn't need it. If it is in a server's mods folder anyway (for example in a modpack that uses the same folder for both), it loads and does nothing. You can join any server with it installed, whether or not the server has it.
