# FAQ

> Answers about Xi's Multiversion UI Lib - servers, Quilt and Legacy Fabric, Mod Menu, Fabric API, languages, modpacks and what it does on its own.

URL: https://xichil.dev/wiki/xis-mvui/v1/faq/ · Updated: 2026-11-06 · Applies to: Fabric, Quilt, Legacy Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, MC 1.7.10 - 26.3

## Does it do anything on its own?

No. It only draws the menus of mods that use it. Without such a mod it adds nothing to the game, not even a
button.

## Do servers need it?

No. It is client-side, and you can join any server with it installed. On a dedicated server it loads and does
nothing.

## Which jar do I need?

The one for your loader family: `fabric` for Fabric and Quilt 1.14+, `legacyfabric` for Legacy Fabric, one of
three Forge jars depending on the era, and `modlauncher` for Forge 1.13.2+ and every NeoForge version. See the
table in [Installation](https://xichil.dev/wiki/xis-mvui/v1/guides/installation/index.md#pick-the-jar).

## Does it work on Quilt?

Yes. Quilt loads the `fabric` jar.

## Do I need Fabric API or Mod Menu?

Neither is required. With Mod Menu, each mod's menu is also behind its Config button in the mod list; without it,
use the Options screen button. Without Fabric API, some mods' menus show in English even if the mod ships your
language, because the mod's language files aren't loaded then.

## Why is the button called "Mod menus..."?

Because more than one installed mod has a menu. The button opens a list with one button per mod. With just one
such mod, the button carries that mod's own label.

## Is my language supported?

The library's own words (Done, Cancel, Yes, No, ON, OFF) use the game's own translations, so they follow your
language. The library's other texts are in English for now. Each mod translates its own menu.

## Can I include it in a modpack?

Yes, as the unmodified jar. The [license](https://xichil.dev/projects/xis-mvui/license/index.md) has the details.

## Can I turn it off?

Add `-Dxis_mvui.disable=true` to the game's Java arguments. The library then loads but shows no menus, and the
mods that use it keep running without their menus. Don't just remove the jar: mods that depend on it won't load
without it.

## A menu says "This menu stopped after an error". Is my game broken?

No. One mod's menu ran into an error, so only that menu is off until you restart.
See [When a menu stops working](https://xichil.dev/wiki/xis-mvui/v1/mechanics/menu-errors/index.md).
