## Does it work on servers?

No, and it doesn't need to. Settings Saver handles client settings only. On a dedicated server it
loads, logs `Dedicated server detected; nothing to do.` and does nothing else.

## Which launchers does it work with?

All of them: Prism Launcher, MultiMC, ATLauncher, CurseForge, the vanilla launcher and others. The
settings live in one [store](https://xichil.dev/wiki/settings-saver/v0/guides/store-location/index.md) per user, outside every instance, so it doesn't
matter which launcher started the game.

## Why didn't my new instance get my settings?

Usually one of these:

- The profile is empty. Press **Save settings to profile** once in an instance that has your settings.
- The instance already had an `options.txt` before its first launch with Settings Saver, for example
because the launcher copied it from another instance or the modpack ships one. Existing settings
are never overwritten on their own: press **Load settings from profile**.
- The instance uses another profile. Check the **Profile** button in the menu.

See [Sync modes](https://xichil.dev/wiki/settings-saver/v0/mechanics/sync-modes/index.md) for exactly when the profile is applied.

## Will it overwrite the settings of my existing instances?

Not unless you ask. Adding Settings Saver to an instance that already has settings changes nothing.
Only **Load** and the **Auto + always apply** mode change an existing `options.txt`, and both back it
up first.

## Do I have to turn on sync?

No. With sync **Off** you save once and every new instance starts with your settings. Turn on
**Auto** if you want changes you make in-game saved to the profile without pressing Save.

## Can I use settings from a newer Minecraft version in an older one?

Yes. Settings Saver converts between every version from 1.7.10 to 26.3, in both directions. Settings
an older version doesn't have are left out there and kept for newer versions. See
[Converting between versions](https://xichil.dev/wiki/settings-saver/v0/mechanics/version-conversion/index.md).

## Are other mods' settings synced?

Keybinds that mods register are, because Minecraft saves them in `options.txt`. Mods' own config
files, OptiFine's `optionsof.txt` and shader settings are not synced in 0.x.

## Is the server list synced?

No. `servers.dat` is not synced, and the last server you typed into Direct Connect (`lastServer`) is
excluded by default.

## Can different instances use different keybinds?

Yes, in two ways. Give those instances their own [profile](https://xichil.dev/wiki/settings-saver/v0/guides/profiles/index.md), or exclude keybinds
from a profile with the pattern `key_*` (see [Excluded settings](https://xichil.dev/wiki/settings-saver/v0/guides/excluded-settings/index.md)) so each
instance keeps its own.

## Can I run two instances at the same time?

Yes. See [Running several instances at once](https://xichil.dev/wiki/settings-saver/v0/mechanics/multiple-instances/index.md).

## How do I undo a Load?

Load makes a backup first. See [Restoring a backup](https://xichil.dev/wiki/settings-saver/v0/guides/backups/index.md).

## Can I use it without the menu?

Mostly. The profile an instance uses, its sync mode, the excluded settings and the number of backups
are plain files: the [instance config](https://xichil.dev/wiki/settings-saver/v0/config/instance/index.md), [global config](https://xichil.dev/wiki/settings-saver/v0/config/global/index.md) and
[profile config](https://xichil.dev/wiki/settings-saver/v0/config/profile/index.md). Syncing keeps working even when the menu can't be shown. Save
and Load are menu buttons; without the menu, use the Auto sync modes, or copy `options.txt` files by
hand with the games closed.

## What languages is the menu in?

English. The settings Settings Saver saves include your game language, which it carries over to
every instance.
